Today, I began making my own foley sounds and putting them together in an audio visual. For my piece, I decided to create a scene of someone going into a coffee shop and beginning to study.
For the beginning of the audio, the person is turning off their car and getting out. For me to make this sound, I did the exact thing, but my phone didn't quite captured well. So for the door closing, I had to improvise and used a pre-recorded audio of a door closing. For walking towards the store, I had birds chirping the wind going by and footsteps. Footsteps was done by me by walking around my house as shown in my foley vid. The wind was windy when I was recording my foleys so I naturally recorded the wind. The birds featured in my recording were my own birds, Sunny and Cloud tweeting. I caught Sunny singing some songs to Cloud and it was perfect for my recording.
Although my birds were perfect for the audio, they did made it quite difficult to record other foleys. Recording things such as the blender or even the sink had to be cut short because of a singular tweet, but I was relieved it worked out in the end.
In the coffee shop, I used samples of people talking and some jazzy coffee shop music since I wasn't able to go out of my house due to COVID and I'm not a music composer. When sitting down in the coffee shop, I was trying to implement the foley sound of the chair moving out and in again, but sadly the music and people talking were louder and drowned the sound.
I then try to add an effect of a bag zipping and unzipping to show that the person is getting something from a bag, but it sadly fallen victim along with the chair moving.
For the last few, You're able to hear a computer turning on, typing, and a book opening. For the computer turning on, I downloaded an audio of a MacBook turning on since an Apple computer is used mostly worldwide and it is recognizable to the ear. For typing and opening the book, I did myself typing something random on the computer and opening a bulky book I had in the house to emphasize the sound of flipping through the pages.
Below is some videos of me creating these sounds myself.
